Loved this phrase and made me think......."But art is never separate from its cultural and historical context, so it’s only logical that it should evolve over time. It's not a condemnation of what it was before, it's evolving to better connect with a new audience."
Love that this thought resonated with you! My perspective on this has been hugely influenced by my personal obsession with comedy. There are lots of comedians who have made jokes in the past that are not as well-received today, and there are different opinions about what to do with that. The 'cancel culture' vibes are usually high in those conversations, but the counterargument is that comedy is THE art form that pushes the envelope, makes people question their beliefs or behavior. So it can't really be 'good comedy' if it tries to never rock the boat. And as a result, of course some comedy won't age very well and needs to be left behind: the art form has to evolve with society, just like our understanding of society and our values and belief systems and so on continue to evolve. Long-winded reply to your comment :D But these are the type of things I looooove thinking about and discussing!
